Sea Siren Necklace

Heirloom Quality

This necklace is made with rare lavender sea glass from Puerto Rico

Ultra Rare Lavender Sea Glass

Lavender sea glass is the only sea glass that I know of that continues to be changed by the forces of nature long after it has been collected. I kept the sea glass pieces in this necklace on a sunny window sill for a year. During that time they transformed from a barely there lavender tint to a medium lavender. There are subtle variations amongst some of the pieces but they harmonize nicely. Lavender sea glass was once clear colorless glass that was made with manganese. Sunlight interacts with the manganese and as a result the sea glass turns lavender over time.

The Wire Work

The silver work in this necklace is done entirely by hand. I shaped Sterling silver wire into round links, spirals, figure eights and a spiraling clasp. I use ancient wire working techniques that were developed by nomadic people along the silk route. This necklace is "cold worked" which means that it is solder less. It gets it's durability from thick gauge wire that is work hardened, hammered and burnished until it is very stiff and can not be easily bent or misshaped. The silver has a wonderfully solid tactile quality. If properly cared for this necklace could become an heirloom.

More Details

The lavender sea glass is adorned with 4mm and 8mm Swarovski crystal beads in a cooling violet which intensifies the color of the sea glass. All five pieces of this sea glass were collected in Puerto Rico and may date back to the late 1800's. This necklace is 19¾" in length. This piece is a one of a kind. I find it to be the very ultimate in sea siren elegance, your inner mermaid will emerge for good once you have worn this special treasure.
